'Neon Nights in 3D' art exhibit opens in Beverly Hills

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (FOX 11) - Remember the thousands of hand-painted, vinyl balls floating in the lake at MacArthur Park?

Portraits of Hope, the nonprofit behind the art installation, has a new public art exhibit in Beverly Hills. "Neon Nights in 3D" will have more than 1,000 art discs painted in fluorescent colors floating on the Lily Pond on Santa Monica Boulevard.

As part of the interactive exhibit, visitors with 3D glasses will see fluorescent flowers pop up from the pond on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The historic Lily Pond, located in front of the large Beverly Hills sign, is a popular pedestrian and bus tour stop destination.

The art discs were hand-painted by participants in the Portraits of Hope program and coincides with the Portraits of Hope revitalization of the LA County animal shelters. Organizers say more of the art discs will be installed at the animal shelters.

The exhibition opens at 8 p.m. Wednesday and runs through the end of August.
