Multiple people shot inside Long Beach business

A shooting at a Long Beach law office left two people dead on Friday, including the shooter who is believed to have killed himself, and at least one other person injured.

Police responded at 2:25 p.m. to a report of an active shooter at a law office in the 300 block of East San Antonio Drive in the Bixby Knolls area, police said.

By 3:30 p.m., police said there was no longer an active-shooter threat at the location, and they later described the shooting as an act of workplace violence. The two people who died were both employees of the law firm, police said. Reports from the scene indicated that at least one other
person was injured, and drove himself or herself to a hospital.

Police cordoned off the area and closed streets surrounding the business.

A motive for the shooting was unknown.

Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia wrote on Twitter that he had been briefed on the shooting, and it "appears to be a workplace homicide."

"Both the shooter and a victim are dead," Garcia said. "One other person was shot but is in hospital in stable condition. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families."

The identities of the deceased were withheld pending family notification.
