Molotov Cocktail Thrown Into Vehicle Leads To Crash In San Bernardino
FOX11 obtained video of the Mercedes bursting into flames that was posted on Instagram by Aaron Covarrubias after he witnessed the incident.
Lt. Richard Lawhead said around 8 p.m. Friday a 22-year-old man in a Mercedes was stopped at a red light at 2nd and I Streets, just west of the 215 freeway.
A vehicle pulled up next to him and someone threw a Molotov cocktail into his car through the driver's side window.
The victim tried to put the fire out as it spread, but ended up crashing into an SUV, which was pushed into the front of an apartment complex.
The victim then jumped out of the car right before it burst into flames.
Aaron Covarrubias witnessed the fire and lives inside the building that was hit.
"It felt like an earthquake the whole house began to shake," Covarrubias said.
His mother was in bed just feet away from where the car went into the building.
Police are still looking for suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact the San Bernardino Police Department at (909) 384-5742.
