LAUSD to reopen most schools on Monday

The Los Angeles Unified School District said most schools and offices will reopen Monday, Jan. 13.

"Conditions have improved for a majority of areas across the Los Angeles region and the District is confident it is safe for students and employees to return to campuses," the district said in a statement.

Open schools will be on a full inclement weather schedule which limits outdoor and athletics activities. Masks will also be available for students and employees, the district said.

Some schools in the high impact areas will remain closed due to mandatory evacuation orders.

This includes:

  • Roscomare Road Elementary
  • Community Magnet Charter
  • Canyon Charter Elementary
  • Kenter Canyon Charter Elementary
  • Palisades Charter Elementary
  • Marquez Charter Elementary
  • Topanga Charter Elementary
  • Lanai Road Elementary
  • Paul Revere Middle School

It's unclear when those schools will reopen.

All schools were closed Wednesday, Jan. 8 and Thursday, Jan. 9 due to the numerous wildfires burning across the county.

During a press conference Sunday night, LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said roughly 50 schools lost power last week. Power was restored to all schools except one, Paul Revere Middle School, which is in a mandatory evacuation zone and will remain closed.

Carvalho said all schools were inspected and cleaned.

Should weather conditions change, LAUSD said they will notify families and employees. All updates will be posted at lausd.org.
