Hollywood standoff ends with man in custody
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (FOX 11/ CNS) - A nearly eight-hour standoff involving a possibly armed man who was holed up inside his Hollywood apartment ended Saturday when police fired tear gas into his unit and took him into custody.
The man was taken in custody at 6:50 a.m., according to a police officer at the LAPD's Hollywood station.
``When they put tear gas inside, he came out peacefully," said Officer Mike Lopez of the LAPD's Media Relations Section, adding it was not immediately known whether police recovered a firearm.
Officers were called to the apartment complex, in the area of Vine Street and Sunset Boulevard, at 10:35 p.m. Friday, according to Sgt. Robert Ward of the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Division.
Information learned at the scene prompted police to take ``a tactical stance,'' Ward said, but did not give details. However, reports from the scene indicated the man was armed.
