'Hey Girlfriend' Network's 13th Annual Luncheon

Women empowering women. That's the message of the "Hey Girlfriend Network". It's an annual go-to luncheon in LA's African-American community, and it's 13-years strong!

They shop, sing, dance, and network. Founder Cynthia Billingslea based the idea on Oprah Winfrey's famous Legends Luncheon. At this year's "Hey Girlfriend" gala the theme was purple.

Women came dressed in all shades of purple, from purses to earrings to pantsuits to informal gowns.

"Hey Girlfriend" always honors an organization. This year it was Alexis Coleman and the Urban Scholar Academy based out of Inglewood.

The event was at the JW Marriot in downtown Los Angeles. Congresswoman Maxine Waters took to the podium. Then a panel of power women answered the question, "what makes for a better community."

Did I mention, the DANCE! Heyyyyyy!!!
