Gas leak in Lincoln Heights causes evacuations

(CNS/FOX11) - A worker using a tractor to demolish a vacant
business building in Lincoln Heights tonight ruptured a natural gas line,
forcing the evacuation of about a dozen residents from three nearby buildings
until the line can be repaired, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said.
The workplace accident took place outside 599 E. Avenue 28 about 7
p.m., LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
A Southern California Gas Company crew was called to the scene,
Humphrey said.
The ruptured line did not cause any explosion, fire or injuries,
Humphrey said.
Due to the gas leak, authorities have temporarily shut down Avenue 28
between Idell and Figueroa streets, Humphrey said.
Ed Laskos was there live.
