Firefighters stop progress in Chino Hills brush fire

Firefighters stopped the progression of a brush fire, dubbed the "Star Fire," in Chino Hills, officials announced Monday.

One house burned Monday as a fire that has spread more than 150 acres flared up today south of the 60 Freeway in Chino Hills, authorities said.

The fire ignited at about 2 p.m. in a rugged area near Falling Star Lane and Chino Hills Parkway, Chino Valley fire officials said.

A house burned and the blaze -- initially estimated at 50 acres -- was later mapped at 154 acres with 65 percent contained by lines of cleared vegetation, fire officials said.

Forward progress of the blaze was reported stopped, officials said at 5:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

Chino Hills Parkway reopened at 10 p.m. but Chino Avenue between Rock Springs Road and Chino Hills Parkway was to be closed throughout the night as firefighters continued to work, fire officials said.

Firefighters from the San Bernardino County Fire Department, the Chino Valley and Los Angeles County fire departments, as well as CalFire, were battling the blaze.
