Entangled fin whale spotted off of Dana Point

A whale entanglement team was deployed Friday afternoon to rescue an adult fin whale off the coast of Dana Point.

The whale was spotted about 2 miles from Dana Point at one point, the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said. A team was dispatched to locate and help the whale, according to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center.

The whale was caught in some sort of marine line, according to the center's executive director, Keith Matassa.

Sea World Rescue, local fishermen and whale watching operators out of Dana Point were working in collaboration with the center.
