Pasadena firefighter who lost home in Eaton fire finds wedding ring in the rubble

A firefighter who lost his home to the Eaton Fire got a big surprise when he returned home to survey the damage.

In all the rubble that was once his house, he found his wedding ring in near-perfect condition.

"Nothing really survived. But yesterday we were here, I was kind of like partially joking like, ‘oh maybe I can find my ring’. You know, of course, I was here with my crew and of course, they are so supportive. They went and started looking, you know, and miraculously we found it," Chien Yu told FOX 11.

The ring was the only thing that survived the fire.

Yu said he was sitting at the kitchen table with his family when he saw flames coming towards his home. As a Pasadena firefighter, he took it upon himself and started knocking on neighbor's doors attempting to evacuate people. He then went to the firehouse in Pasadena ready to work-- his primary role-- evacuating people in Altadena

He was able to drive by his house while the fire was raging. It was standing at the time. But when he returned the next day, the house was reduced to ashes.

He didn't think there was anything that could be salvageable until a couple of days later when he returned with his fellow firefighters to see if there was anything in the ashes.

To his shock, they found his wedding ring.

Chien and his wife have been married for about 12 years. They have two young boys.
