The fire was reported about 5:20 p.m. at 1981 W. Slauson Ave., Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Video from the scene showed flaming bundles and piles of refuse aflame as firefighters poured what Scott described as "large hose streams'' of water upon the blaze.

About 50 firefighters responded and had the fire knocked down in 1 hour and 20 minutes, Scott said.

It was unclear if any structures were threatened, but no injuries were immediately reported.
