LOS ANGELES (FOX 11) - Police are hoping video from security cameras will help track down the suspect in a fatal gas robbery Tuesday in the Los Feliz area.
An African American man described to be in his early 20's walked into the gas station, robbed the place and killed the clerk, according to investigators.
The way police describe it, the gunman walked in around 3:30 a.m., made a purchase and stayed in the business for awhile. This, while another customer came in, bought something and left.
Police said the suspect went back to the counter like he was going to buy something, but instead, pulled out a gun and gave some orders. Though the 25-year-old clerk seemed to be cooperating, police said the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired several times at the cashier.
As the suspect left the station in a light colored vehicle, the clerk managed to call 911 and was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
The manager said the clerk hadn't worked at the gas station long. He was basically working to help him with school.
A colleague tells us, "He was a really mellow guy. Just here to learn and study and work for his family. He used to send money home to help his mom and dad."
But right now, the man police want to know more about is the one who came into the gas station, robbed the place and killed the clerk.
