City offering $50,000 reward for information leading to arrest of hit-and-run driver

A $50,000 reward is being offering for anyone who has information leading to the arrest of a hit-and-run driver.

45-year-old Veronica Hernandez was killed on August 4th as she was collecting recyclables from a container on Alondra Blvd. just west of Orchard Ave.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department the car was described as a dark, possibly gray, BMW 5-Series sedan.

Surveillance video of the crash was released by authorities. Officers say the driver of the vehicle failed to stop after the collision.

“The (BMW) was eastbound on Alondra Boulevard at a high rate of speed when it passed a vehicle on the right at Orchard Avenue,'' an LAPD statement said. “As the BMW was passing on the right, it struck and killed Hernandez.''

Hernandez is a mother of six.

“We just want to bring justice,'' Hernandez's daughter-in-law, Jessica Mancia, said Friday morning during a press conference.  “This is no way for her to have passed.''

Mancia urged the suspect to surrender to police. “If you're out there and you're listening, just have a little bit of remorse to bring peace ... to our family,'' Mancia said. “We love her very much, and we just miss her.''

The reward was offered by the city for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the motorist. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call detectives at 424-298-7898, or 877-LAPD-247.
