Chino man in police custody after reportedly threatening to 'shoot up' Citrus College

Citrus College in Glendora was placed on lockdown Tuesday after the campus received a threatening call, authorities said.

Glendora police say a man called 9-1-1 saying he was going to "shoot up" Citrus College shortly after 11 a.m.

The Citrus College lockdown was lifted at 5:58 p.m. after the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Bomb Squad was called to the scene and a room-to-room search was conducted on campus.

Police took 30-year-old Chino resident Terrell Lee Bennett into custody after he was identified as the suspect in Tuesday's incident.

Bennett is an online student at Citrus College who was scheduled for an in-person class on Tuesday, according to Glendora police. His car was located in a campus parking lot Tuesday morning.

Investigators say "suicide-by-cop" appears to be a motive for the threats based on Bennett's statements.

Anyone with additional information regarding Bennett and his actions is asked to call Sgt. Michael Henderson by phone at 626-914-8281.
