Child found dead near hiking trail in Hacienda Heights now being investigated as homicide

Authorities are now investigating the death of a little girl found dead inside a large duffel bag near an equestrian trail in Hacienda Heights as a homicide.

The LA Coroner's Office announced on Friday that the manner of death is ruled a homicide, although no specific details were released.

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department released a composite sketch of the girl, believed to be between 8-13 years old, African-American, about 4-feet 5-inches tall and 55 pounds. The composite sketch also included photos of the pink-long sleeve top with the words "Future Princess Hero" and grey pants with pandas on them that she was wearing when her body was found.

County workers clearing some brush in the area came across the girl's remains at about 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2019.

Investigators are still working to identify the little girl.
