Bike sales spike nationwide during COVID-19 pandemic

Business is booming for bike shops across the nation as families seek ways to stay in shape and get outside during the COVID-19 pandemic.

One bike shop that has experienced increased demand is Giant Santa Monica, a bike shop located near one of Los Angeles’ most popular destinations.

“We’re scrambling to find more bikes,” said co-owner, Elon Rubin.

Within one week, Rubin said they sold out of children’s bicycles that were priced under $800.

They are also sold out of entry-level bikes for adults.

Bike sales have seen a surge during the coronavirus crisis.

Currently, there is a nationwide shortage of bikes as people find creative ways to get out of the house, stay in shape, and spend more time with their families while maintaining proper social distance.

“I’m hoping this sticks and that more people get into cycling,” Rubin said.
