Angelina Jolie Has Ovaries, Fallopian Tubes Removed To Prevent Cancer Risk

Angelina Jolie reveals she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed, and is now in menopause.

The 39-year old Oscar winner made the revelation in an op-ed published in the New York Times.

She says she made the decision have the surgery after a check-up two weeks ago where doctors found a small benign tumor on one ovary.

Jolie carries a gene that gives her a fifty-percent chance of developing ovarian cancer. Something her mother died of at age 56.

Jolie decided not to take any chances... And to go ahead with the preventative procedure last week.

In the op ed she says, "I told myself to stay calm, to be strong, and that I had no reason to think I wouldn't live to see my children grow up and to meet my grandchildren. I called my husband in France, who was on a plane within hours."

Jolie has six children with Brad Pitt, three of whom are adopted

Despite the surgery, Jolie says she still remains prone cancer but she will look for natural ways to strengthen her immune system.

She says she feels feminine and grounded in her choices saying, "I know my children will never have to say, mom died of ovarian cancer."
