2 without a home after fire sparks at mobile home park in Ridgecrest

RIDGECREST, Calif. (FOX 11) - Two senior citizens are without a home after a fire ignited inside a mobile home park in Ridgecrest early Saturday morning that may have been caused by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake, or one of the aftershocks that followed, Kern County officials said Saturday.

The two were inside the home at Ridgecrest Town and Country Mobile Home Park near the intersection of Norma Street and Inyokern Road at the time of the fire. They were able to escape before the property was destroyed by the flames, said Kern County Fire Battalion Chief Steve Pendergrass.

Ridgecrest is located about 11 miles from the epicenter where the powerful quake that rattled Southern California struck on Friday night.

In addition to triple digit heat, there is a chance the area may see another magnitude seven earthquake, according to Seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
