2 detained following deputy-involved shooting in East LA
LOS ANGELES - Two men were detained following a deadly deputy-involved shooting in East Los Angeles.
Deputies made contact with two or three men in a Mercury Mountaineer SUV in a parking lot near the intersection of Whittier Boulevard and S. Kern Avenue at about 3:50 p.m. Monday.
One of the men inside the vehicle pulled out a gun and a deputy-involved shooting occurred, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
The suspects immediately drove away from the scene.
Later in the evening, the suspects' vehicle was found abandoned in the area of S. Mednik Avenue and E. 3rd Street with a loaded gun inside, LASD said.
No deputies were hurt in the incident, LASD said.
The whereabouts of the potential third suspect remained unclear. The investigation is ongoing.
