107-year-old woman's secret to long life: ‘Forget about it'

What's the secret to living to be a centenarian? A Minnesota woman who's hit that mark says, "forget about it!"

Former school teacher Jo Sunderland turned 107-years-old Wednesday and celebrated with birthday cakes, a few close people and some good lung capacity to get the candles doused on two birthday cakes with "107" on them in her honor.

Sunderland was born in Iowa in 1911 and her family moved to Hackensack, Minnesota in 1914. She taught the third grade at Our Lady of the Lake School in Mound, Minnesota until the age of 65.

She has a pretty simple philosophy to longevity past the century mark... don't worry, be happy!

"Don't worry about the little things if you can't do anything about it, forget it," she said.

To keep her mind fresh and strong, Sunderland does the Minneapolis Star Tribune crossword puzzle every day.
