A chat about beer with brew expert Christina Perozzi

How much do you really know about beer?

Beer expert Christina Perozzi joined me on Olympic & Bundy to talk about what she knows best -- Cerveza!

Christina first started learning about beer and developing an affinity for it while working at Father's Office in Santa Monica. After seeing how little people actually knew about beer, she started a website with co-worker and friend Hallie Beaune as a way to share her newfound knowledge and passion.

In 2009, they co-authored the book The Naked Pint: An Adulterated Guide to Craft Beer, and in 2012, The Naked Brewer: Fearless Homebrewing Tips, Tricks & Rule-Breaking Recipes.

Named "Best Beer Sommelier in Los Angeles" by Los Angeles Magazine, Christina is a Certified Cicerone and has earned a reputation as one of the top beer experts in the United States.

She is now the Goose Island Beer Company education director in Chicago.

Our conversation covered topics such as:

-What it means to be a "Certified Cicerone" and her background.
-The most popular hops and what purpose they serve.
-The difference between ales and lagers (hint: part of it has to do with temperature).
-A breakdown of various beer styles.
-Some history about beer and brewing, including how the India Pale Ale (IPA) got its name.

And of course, we tasted a few different Goose Island beers for good measure!
