Winter storm brings heavy snow to Southern California mountains
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. - A winter storm brought heavy snow to the San Bernardino Mountains Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service, much of the region remains under a winter storm warning until 4 p.m. Monday. This includes areas such as Big Bear Lake, Big Bear City, Lake Arrowhead, Wrightwood, and Crestline.
Elevations above 5,000 feet could see up to a foot of snow, according to the latest forecast.
"Excellent snow-making conditions over the last week helped set the stage for this round of storms, which are forecast to drop up to 13" of snow by the time the storm clears out Tuesday morning," officials with Big Bear Mountain Resort said.
All this snow means messy commutes in the area, with the NWS warning it could be "very difficult to impossible" to drive due to the hazardous conditions that could also affect Monday morning's commute.
The California Highway Patrol is urging people to stay off the roads until at least Monday afternoon if possible.
