Whale spotted near Statue of Liberty, G.W. Bridge

The Coast Guard said it received reports of a whale near the Statue of Liberty on Thursday, according to the AP. Then Friday, a whale was seen in the Hudson River near the George Washington Bridge. It is not clear if it was the same one.

After the whale was spotted around 8 a.m. Thursday near Liberty Island in New York Harbor, the Coast Guard issued an advisory telling mariners to watch out and avoid contact with the whale, the AP said.
A collision with a vessel is often fatal for whales.

The whale seen Friday was swimming close to a large cargo ship and some smaller vessels.
