VIDEO: Family-owned bakery in El Sereno hit by burglars

Police are looking for two men they say burglarized a family-owned bakery in El Sereno that was caught on surveillance video.

The break-in happened early Sunday morning at the Antigua Bread on Huntington Drive. The owners say they had a large Christmas party at the bakery and restaurant Saturday night. But when the last baker went home for the night, he could not get the alarm to work.

The owners say he left, and the thieves struck about 20 minutes later stealing two cash registers and a safe, for a total loss of about $15,000.

One of the owners, Erika Perez said, "I was really sad, because you never expect that to happen."

This burglary comes after many in the community claim there has been an increase in crimes in the area.

Jason Berti runs Son of a Vet Thrift and Vintage Shop nearby and says,"We've had a few break-ins here, a major break-in at our warehouse, our neighbor here, had a few break-ins, they stole a trailer out of the back.

Victor Pallares agrees. He runs the 'El Sereno Insider,' a local neighborhood newsletter on social media saying, "It's been really active in the area.

We've had a spike in crime, we've had some burglaries, some businesses, some robberies in the area, gangs are active, it's a spike in crime right now."
