Victim smashes onto parked cars in deadly South L.A. hit-and-run

A pedestrian was killed early Wednesday morning in a hit-and-run crash in the Vermont Square neighborhood of South Los Angeles and the driver was at large.

Officers responded to the intersection of 51st Street and Normandie Avenue about 1:25 a.m., where they located the victim, a man in his 30s or 40s, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The victim flew into the air and landed onto two parked cars after being struck, officials said. 

Police said the victim was outside a crosswalk at the time he was hit. 

A detailed description of the driver or suspect vehicle was not immediately available.

The name of the victim was not immediately disclosed.
