Two hospitalized in overnight pursuit crash in Baldwin Park

Two people were hospitalized on Friday morning after a pursuit crash in Baldwin Park.

Just after 1 a.m., police officers tried pulling over a suspicious car in West Covina, but the driver failed to stop, engaging in a pursuit.

From city streets, right onto the freeway, police said the driver of the Nissan Altima was driving so fast, they lost the car at the 605 / I-10 Interchange, but a sheriff's helicopter was able to spot it and the pursuit continued into Baldwin Park.

The pursuit ended when the driver of the Nissan crashed into two innocent women driving inside a Porsche SUV. The Porsche had a green light and was proceeding through the intersection of Francisquito Avenue and Puente Avenue when it was struck, investigators said.

The women in the Porsche suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was seriously injured, along with his female passenger. Two other men in the car reported minor injuries as well. Authorities said one of those men was detained for questioning.

The driver and the passenger remain hospitalized on Friday morning, their condition is unknown.

Police are still working to determine why the driver of the Nissan failed to stop for officers.
