Two homeless men shot in the face with pellet gun in Buena Park

Two homeless men were shot in the face with a pellet gun Sunday night in separate drive-by shooting incidents, according to Buena Park police.

The first shooting happened around 10:45 p.m. when a man sleeping outside an empty store front on Knotts Avenue and Lincoln Avenue was targeted.

Police said someone inside a vehicle fired a pellet gun at the man and hit him in the lip and the cheek.

The man was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

"It all happened so quickly and it was dark," Sgt. Bret Carter, Buena Park Police Department said. "The vehicle was dark there's no description of a number or a description of the individuals that shot them."

According to witnesses, the vehicle took off, but about 15 minutes later and just four miles from the first shooting police got reports of another homeless man shot.

The man was sitting at a bus stop when someone inside a car fired a pellet gun. The bullets also struck him in the face.

Despite the similarities Sergeant Carter said it's too early to connect the incidents.

"I think it's a little premature to go there right now," Carter said. "While they are very similar in what occurred, who the victims were and the type of assault, there is really nothing else we can connect."

Police said the suspect or suspects were inside a black four-door compact vehicle.

Anyone with information can call Buena Park Police at 714-562-3901.
