Two dead, four others hurt in Leimert Park house fire
(FOX 11/CNS) - An 8-year-old boy and a 67-year-old woman were killed, and four people were hurt at a house fire in Leimert Park, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Firefighters who were returning from another fire saw the flames from the house at 3971 S. 2nd Ave. at 11:08 a.m., fire department spokeswoman Amy Bastman said.
A total of 50 firefighters put out the flames in about 22 minutes, Bastman said.
Firefighters helped two people escape, including one person out a window, Bastman said.
An 83-year-old woman and a 42-year-old woman were hospitalized in fair condition. Two other people were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Bastman continued.
Two children -- a 13-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl -- had been inside but escaped unhurt, Bastman added.
The Red Cross was helping people displaced by the fire get temporary housing, she said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation, Bastman said.
