Three people killed after being hit by a car in Bloomington
(FOX 11) - Fox 11 is learning more tonight about the three family members killed after being run over by a car in Bloomington
Candles were lit and prayers were sent for a Bloomington family and community in mourning.
Police said the driver of a red, Dodge Challenger lost control and veered off Slover Avenue Sunday evening, striking a mother and her three children as they walked along the sidewalk.
A 14-year-old girl, a 17-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were killed, their mother, Maria Jauregui Luna was also injured.
The driver, 19 year old Leonardo Bravo was questioned by CHP and released.
But they are still investigating neighbors' claims the driver was racing.
Blanca Castillo said the claims about speed racing were not a surprise to her.
"There's been a few accidents. No deaths," Castillo said. "This is the first death so every accident been impacting to us, but now somebody died. We live here. There's residents here. There's children here and the street is like a freeway."
She said speeding was a huge problem on the 18-thousand block of Slover Avenue because the streetlights are almost a mile apart.
"It's more of a problem when they expanded the street and opened two lanes. So that made it a lot more--cars are just zooming by."
Residents asked city officials to install another streetlight, stop signs or street bumps so they could avoid another loss like the one the community witnessed this weekend.
