Three charged in connection with murder of off-duty LAPD officer Juan Diaz
LOS ANGELES - Two reputed gang members have been charged with capital murder stemming from the July 27 shooting death of off-duty Los Angeles police Officer Juan Jose Diaz in Lincoln Heights.
Cristian Facundo, 20, of Murrieta, and Francisco Talamantes III, 24, of Temecula, are facing one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder, along with a special circumstance allegation of murder for the benefit of a street gang.

Both men, along with another suspect, Ashlynn Smith, 18, of Temecula, have also been charged with shooting at an occupied motor vehicle and vandalism.
Smith also faces a count of being an accessory after the fact. All three are expected to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in downtown Los Angeles.
