Thousands of LA kids receive new shoes, clothes, backpacks during back-to-school giveaway

Lines were wrapped around the block in downtown LA as thousands of people patiently waited to get free shoes and school supplies for their kids.

Many of them began lining up as early as 6 a.m. on a rainy Saturday morning, waiting three hours for the annual giveaway at Fred Jordan Mission in the Skid Row area.

The mission has been holding this event for 30 years. Organizers say more than 105,000 children went to school fully equipped.

Over 3,000 pairs of brand-new shoes were donated this year by Foot Locker. Disney and In-N-Out were also helping with the event.

This is one of America’s largest back-to-school charitable giveaways.
