Teen killed, woman wounded in Willowbrook shooting

Authorities on Friday investigated a shooting that left a teenage girl dead and a woman wounded in Willowbrook.

The shooting occurred around 9:05 p.m. Thursday in the area of Hooper Avenue and 93rd Street, said Deputy Trina Schrader of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The victim was Miracle McGowan of Los Angeles, the coroner's office reported.

Detectives learned Los Angeles police officers heard gunshots and saw a dark SUV speeding away. Believing the vehicle's occupants were involved in the shooting, officers initiated a pursuit, Schrader said.

When the vehicle reached Wilmington Avenue near Imperial Highway, it came to a stop. Officers discovered that the three occupants were the ones to have been shot at.

The girl, who was struck at least one time in the body, was pronounced dead at the scene, Schrader said. The wounded woman was taken to a hospital where she is in good condition, according to Schrader. The third female in the vehicle was not struck by the gunfire, she added.

There was no suspect information immediately available.
