Teen killed, another critically hurt in Pico-Union shooting

One teenage boy was killed and another hospitalized in critical condition from a shooting Saturday night in the Pico Union area, police said.

The shooting was reported at 6:42 p.m. in the 1500 block of Courtland Avenue, near the intersection of Hoover Street and Venice Boulevard, Los Angeles police Lt. Cliff Humphris said.

"The suspect produced a gun and shot two victims,'' Humphris said.

The 14-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene and a 16-year-old boy was taken to a hospital in critical condition, he said.

Homicide detectives were on the scene canvassing for witnesses and evidence, said Humphris, who would not release suspect information.
