Suspected DUI driver crashes vehicle into Torrance restaurant

A Washington state man was arrested after crashing a vehicle into a Torrance restaurant while allegedly under the influence of PCP, police said Wednesday.

The crash was reported just before 11 p.m. Tuesday at the Astro restaurant at 2212 Artesia Blvd., according to the Torrance Police Department.

Jose Ferrez, 39, of Federal Way, was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and will be booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of PCP when his condition permits, said Torrance police Sgt. Ronald Harris. He said Ferrez was wanted on an arrest warrant issued in Washington.

According to police, Ferrez was driving west in the eastbound lanes of Artesia Boulevard when his vehicle crashed into two eastbound cars, veered off the roadway, struck a light pole and a fire hydrant, and then plowed into the eatery. No one was in the restaurant at the time of the crash.

The other motorists were not injured, police said.
