Suspect shot after attempting to run over officers in Ontario

ONTARIO, Calif. (FOX 11) - A suspect was shot by police after he attempted to run officers over with his vehicle Friday morning.

23-year-old Augustin Martinez, of Fontana, was wanted in connection for his role in a police pursuit that happened Thursday in Ontario.

Officers with the Ontario Police Department located Martinez Friday on the 9500 block of Lime Ave. As soon as they approached him he entered into a vehicle and fled the area.

The Ontario Police Department says Martinez quickly accelerated and rammed into an officer's patrol car.

He then attempted to run over the officers with the vehicle, police say that's when an officer-involved shooting occurred.

Martinez was hit and taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries. Luckily, no officers were injured during the incident.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is investigating the officer involved shooting.
