Suspect killed in deputy-involved shooting in East LA

A deputy-involved shooting investigation is underway in the 3600 block of 4th Street in East Los Angeles.

The public is being asked to avoid the area of Indiana Street and E 4th Street.

The shooting occurred at about 5:30 p.m. Monday. It's unknown what led to the deputy-involved shooting at this time.

No deputies were reportedly hurt in the incident but the male suspect was killed after being struck multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect has not been identified.

A handgun was recovered at the scene.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says deputies approached the suspect who was known to them and had a warrant out for his arrest, and upon contact with him, the suspect took off running and eventually turned around, drew a firearm, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
