Suspect In Custody After 6-Hour Standoff In Hyde Park

UPDATE: Suspect in custody after 6 hour standoff. No injuries.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A police SWAT team has surrounded a house in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, where a boy was released several hours into a daylong standoff.

A reporter at the scene said the armed and barricaded man had allowed his son to walk out of the home, in the 5800 block of Eighth Avenue.

It was not clear what triggered the standoff with the man, who may be under the influence of alcohol or drug. He barricaded himself in the home just before 9 a.m., said Officer Norma Eisenman of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.

A SWAT team was dispatched to the scene, Eisenman said. Traffic and neighborhood activity was affected near Slauson Avenue at Crenshaw Boulevard.
