Surfer bumped by shark in Huntington Beach prompts closure

Some waters in the Huntington Beach area were closed to swimmers and riders this morning after a surfer was bumped by shark.

The surfer reported being bumped about 8:30 a.m. near Tower 16 on the south end of Bolsa Chica State Beach, prompting the closure of beaches immediately to the north and south of where the encounter occurred, Huntington
Beach Marine Safety Lt. Claude Panis said.

The closure was to expire Monday.

Panis said aggressive shark encounters typically prompt a closure of water for 24 hours in a one-mile radius from where they occur.
