Shooting investigation prompts lane closures on 110 Freeway in Gardena

An investigation was underway Wednesday in Gardena after reports of a shooting on the 110 Freeway.

Police received a call of shots fired just before 3:50 a.m.

Police said it was a “drug deal gone bad,” which led to the car-to-car shooting.

Authorities said the suspect started driving next to a sedan when the gunman opened fire.

The victim’s vehicle then veered into the right shoulder and crashed into the wall.

The suspected gunman crashed into a third vehicle and subsequently took off on foot. The third vehicle burst into flames upon impact.

No injuries were reported in the second crash.

The southbound lanes of the 110 Freeway are closed from Rosecrans Avenue to the 91 Freeway.

No further information was immediately released.

California Highway Patrol is investigating.
