HIGHGROVE, Calif. (FOX 11) - Riverside County sheriff's officials are investigating the death of a 3-year-old girl in the Highgrove area.
Authorities were alerted around 7 a.m. about a body found in the backyard of a home in the 400 block of Cannes Avenue.
Homicide detectives as of Friday afternoon are not confirming what relatives are saying. Family members believe the girl's mother had mental health issues and allege she killed her daughter.
It's the type of crime that has neighbors out on the streets looking, talking and shaking their heads.
Sheriff's detectives in the small Riverside County community aren't saying much, but neighbors are, as is the victim's great aunt, who already posted a heartbreaking picture of the young girl and an accusation against the mother on a Go Fund Me page.
Authorities meanwhile have yet to confirm the toddler's identity.
