Security guard fatally shoots suspected shoplifter at Hollywood Walgreens, police say
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (FOX 11) - An investigation was underway Monday after a security guard shot and killed a suspected shoplifter at a Walgreens store in Hollywood, police said.
The shooting was reported just after 8 p.m. Sunday at the Walgreens store on the corner of Sunset and Vine streets.
Police said a store security guard confronted a suspected male shoplifter, when then escalated into some sort of physical altercation. At some point, the security guard shot the victim, police said.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
Homicide detectives were investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting. Police told FOX 11 that the victim did not have a weapon.
The security guard has not been arrested in connection with the shooting, police said.
