Search continues Monday for hikers who disappeared near Mt. Baldy
MOUNT BALDY, Calif. (FOX 11) - The search for two hikers reported missing over the weekend in the San Gabriel Mountains continued Monday with multiple search and rescue teams responding.
Authorities said 33-year-old Eric Desplinter and 31-year-old Gabrielle Wallace were reported missing around 8 p.m. Saturday when they did not return from a hike in the Mount Baldy area.
A friend said the two were believed to be headed toward Cucamonga Peak and were supposed to return by 7 p.m., according to the Fontana Station of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies responded to the area where the hikers' vehicle was parked and began a search.
Deputies said Desplinter is an experienced hiker and was last seen wearing a yellow jacket and green pants. Wallace was last seen wearing a gray sweater and jeans.
They are believed to have a limited amount of food and water.
Search and rescue teams from San Bernardino, Los Angeles and San Diego counties were all assisting in the search, in addition to multiple helicopters.
Mount Baldy is located about 12 miles north of Ontario and surrounded by the Angeles National Forest.
