School places 4-year-old boy on wrong school bus in Prince George's County

A Prince George's County mother was unable to pick up her 4-year-old son after school after he was mistakenly put on the wrong bus. This comes after other transportation issues occurred involving other county students last week.

Jasmia Smith had left her Temple Hills home to pick up her 4-year-old son Michael and his older brother from after school care only to find out they were not there.

"They weren't on the bus and I said, 'Well, where are they because I took them to school today,'" said Smith. "And they were like, 'Well, we don't know. Let's go inside and call the school.'"

Back at J. Frank Dent Elementary School in Fort Washington, Smith said there were no answers.

"Nobody could really tell me anything," she said. "I kind of just had a panic attack and just started crying … because the school said that they didn't know."

It turns out a teacher's aide put young Michael on the wrong bus and the little boy was dropped off at The Brinkley House apartment complex in Temple Hills.

"A teacher had ran out and was like, 'Ms. Smith, Ms. Smith, just stop crying, stop crying, we found your child,'" Smith described to FOX 5. "I said, 'You found my son? Where is he?' They said he's on his way here now.

"I said, 'Where is he? Where is he?' They said, 'Well, we just want you to come inside' and they were trying to calm me down and stop me from crying."

A Prince George's County Public Schools spokesperson said other children kept Michael company while an employee at the complex called the school.

But no one called Smith.

"Nobody called me," she said. "Nobody called their dad. Nobody called my mother. Everybody that was on the emergency contact list, was that even used?"

A school spokesperson said the school district is very sorry the incident occurred. But for Smith, it may be too late.

"[It's] very frightening," said Smith. "I don't even know if I'm going to take him to school tomorrow because I don't know if this could happen again."
