Robbery pursuit ends in Watts, 3rd suspect still at large

Police arrested two robbery suspects today after a high-speed pursuit ended in Watts, but a third suspect remains at large.

Authorities believe the male suspects could be connected to an armed robbery at an Arco gas station in Chino Hills this morning, as well as a string of recent armed robberies in Orange County, according California Highway Patrol.

At 2:10 a.m., Chino Hills police requested that the CHP make a traffic stop on a White Kia Optima believed to be connected to the robberies. CHP units responded and attempted to stop the vehicle on State Route 60 at Hacienda Boulevard, but the vehicle sped away.

The suspects' vehicle raced south at high speeds on Interstate 710 while Los Angeles County Sheriff's helicopter followed overhead.

The suspects exited to highway and sped onto surface streets in South Los Angeles. The driver stopped the vehicle on Firth Boulevard at 96th Street, and the three suspects fled on foot, CHP said.

Police found the driver, 25-year-old Ricky Lee Vaughn, hiding in a schoolyard nearby and took him into custody. The front passenger of the vehicle was also arrested nearby, but his identity has not been released.

A third suspect remains at large.
