Review: 'Hamilton' on Disney+ is a ‘Lin-Win’ situation

When hip-hop and history collide, you can guarantee that you will be 'satisfied.' Hamilton is now streaming on Disney+, and it adds up to be quite the experience.

Lights. Camera. Reaction.

That is what you will have within the first 30 seconds of the smash-hit musical "Hamilton," which is now available to stream. This production was filmed in 2016, about a year after its Broadway debut and features the original cast including the show's creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda. The original cast also includes Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Phillipa Soo, Anthony Ramos, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Okieriete Onaodowan, and Christopher Jackson.

It's important to acknowledge this cast because it has such cultural significance. Most of the cast is comprised of actors of color. Black, Latino, and Asian leads represent and take the story of our founding fathers shaping democracy to the next level and make it accessible for all to enjoy, learn, and be entertained by.  "Hamilton" marks an American musical during an American reckoning.

From the very beginning of this musical, Tony Award-winning director Thomas Kail makes the audience at home feel like they are a part of the audience on broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Now, what do I mean by that? Well, you will also be reminded to silence your cell phones before the performance begins, and you will feel like you paid a massive amount of money sitting in an even better seat than the front row! You'll be close to the actor's faces. You will almost want to say excuse me or even back up 6 feet.

Lin-Manuel Miranda is not only behind the title character of Alexander Hamilton, but the music and lyrics are also by him and his incredible mind, and they enhance the cast's star power for over 2 hours. You will even experience the approximate 15-minute intermission. A great time to use the restroom, restock on snacks, and process the magic that this musical brought to you the past hour.

"My shot," "The Story of Tonight," "Satisfied," and "Wait For It" are just a few of the musical numbers that will be stuck in your head after watching this masterpiece. The musical holds up alexander hamilton as the underrated founding father, first treasury secretary, and not-so-spoiler alert loses his life in an infamous duel with his political rival Aaron Burr, played by Leslie Odom Jr.

It's a fun-for-the-whole-family musical - I'd rather call an experience. I am personally better for having experienced Hamilton the musical, and knowing that it is available for the world to see reminds us "How lucky we are to be alive right now." pun always intended.

"History has its eyes on you," and now so will millions of people.

So, if and when you watch it safe at home this weekend: it will be a Lin-win situation!
