A stretch of Topanga Canyon Boulevard remains closed on Monday in the Malibu area due to a mudslide and flooding, city officials said.

The mudslide was reported on Sunday at 7:28 p.m. on Topanga Canyon Boulevard. The roadway was ordered to be closed indefinitely between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive, California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Polizzi said. Motorists are asked to take alternate routes.

California Department of Transportation crews were called to the scene for clean-up. Crews worked through the night using heavy equipment to remove boulders and mud from the roadway.

The weekend rain left hillsides saturated and vulnerable to mudslides. City officials are urging residents to avoid Pacific Coast Highway until Monday and Tuesday's storms have passed.

Officials say more road closures are possible especially in the areas heavily impacted by the Woolsey Fire.
