BELL GARDENS, Calif. (FOX 11) - A police chase has ended late Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Orange Grove and Holly Street in Pasadena, California, after a long pursuit that started in Bell Gardens.
The grand theft auto suspect stole a work truck and traveled for nearly 45 minutes at a high rate of speed on surface streets in Pasadena, driving on sidewalks and blowing through stop signs and stop lights. At one point, the truck had all four wheels off the ground, with speeds as high as 60 m.p.h.
The pursuit ended after the suspect broadsided a black SUV. With the airbags deployed, the driver of that SUV was trapped inside, since the collision occurred on the driver's side. Rescue crews used cutting tools to get the driver out as safely as possible. The driver was conscious and breathing at the time of the rescue and was transported to a nearby hospital.
The suspect in the work truck stepped out and surrendered peacefully.
