Police: Man broke into to woman's home, attempted to rape her and her disabled daughter

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Police in Riverside quickly apprehended a man who broke into to woman's home in the overnight hours Thursday morning and allegedly attempted to rape her and her disabled daughter.
Manuel Benavente, a 34-year-old transient in Riverside, was arrested and later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on two counts of assault with the intent to rape during the commission of a burglary.
Authorities received a call around 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning from a mother reporting that a stranger had broken into her home, located along Hayes Street near Arlington Park, and was attempting to sexually assault her daughter.
Officers quickly arrived and saw a naked man on top of a woman through a bedroom window. They immediately entered the home and detained the man, who was still in the victim’s bedroom.

Police said their investigation revealed that Benavente removed a window screen and crawled into the home completely naked, leaving his clothes outside.
He confronted and assaulted the victim’s mother, police said, ordering her to disrobe. He then attempted to rape both the mother and victim daughter.
The daughter is a developmentally disabled woman in her 30s who lives with her parents, according to Riverside Police.
Both victims sustained visible injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
