Police discover apparent drug lab inside Burbank home; one person detained
BURBANK, Calif. (FOX 11) - Burbank police Thursday detained a person at the scene of an apparent drug lab found at a residence.
Officers went to the 3400 block of Castleman Lane about 1:20 a.m., Burbank police Sgt. Derek Green said.
"The investigation stems from a police call for service regarding suspicious circumstances ... after witnesses saw a loose dog come from a residence with an open front door," Green said.
"When Burbank police officers arrived, they saw lights on inside the home and vehicles parked in the driveway," Green said. "However, there was no response from anyone inside the home.''
Green said officers entered the residence because they "feared someone was inside the home, possibly in distress, in need of help, or the victim of a crime."
"As they entered the residence, they encountered drug manufacturing equipment and what appeared to be a sophisticated clandestine drug lab," Green said.
Police officers secured the location, and worked to obtain a search warrant, Green said.
"Due to the volatile and dangerous nature of drug labs, additional resources were called, including the Burbank Fire Department, HazMat Response Team, and investigators with the California Department of Justice," Green said.
Officers detained a person for questioning, Green said.
"His relationship to the home is not yet known,'' Green said.
No arrests had been reported as of mid-afternoon.
