Pallet fire spreads to nearby buildings in Industry

A three-alarm blaze in a pallet yard in Industry spread to two nearby warehouse and firefighters focused on preventing its spread, authorities said.

The fire was reported about 8:15 p.m. at 15530 Salt Lake Ave., the Los Angeles County Fire Department said. The second building is at 15600 Salt Lake Avenue. At least one is used by a cardboard manufacturer.

Firefighters went into defensive mode, working to prevent flames from spreading but it did spread to both 100,000 sq. ft. warehouses, officials said. Involvement was limited to five percent of each building with sprinklers helping to hold flames in check.

A pressure boost was requested for the water system to aid the battle.

The spread was stopped at about 9:10 p.m., firefighters said.

The blaze caused power lines to go down across railroad tracks used by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad and Metrolink, officials said.

One firefighter suffered an ankle injury and was expected to be transported to a hospital for treatment.
